A big shout-out to Blue Wiggle Anthony, the Wiggles Band, featuring a guest appearance from the mighty Tree of Wisdom, and musos from the Sydney University Regiment, who jammed on the hostel rooftop on 1 July 2026 to an appreciative audience of men experiencing homelessness. 

The afternoon included a BBQ lunch cooked and served by soldiers from the Sydney University Regiment. Following the stylish entrance of the band in the Big Red Ute, one of the many highlights was a rousing chorus of Bruce Channel’s 1959 classic “Hey Baby”, with full audience participation! 

Spearheaded by Paddington Woollahra Sub-Branch RSL Welfare Officer Warren Crotty and Warrant Officer Jeremy Lowe from the Sydney University Regiment, the event is the latest in a series of rooftop BBQs at the Talbot, aimed at reaching out to and supporting veterans of the Defence Forces, their families and others experiencing homelessness. 

The Sydney University Regiment not only cooked and served the BBQ, but also stayed afterwards to chat and swap stories with the diners. Thanks to the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere created by the soldiers, several homeless veterans felt comfortable enough to talk about their own service and reach out for support. 

Everyone at Matthew Talbot Hostel is greatly appreciative of the commitment of the Wiggles, the Australian Army and the Returned and Services League in providing practical support where it is most needed to those experiencing homelessness.
